“Around the Block” Quilt Show 2018

 

  1. The following categories won’t be included in judging table runners, series, workshops, and Honor flights.
  2. Quilt submission form must be filled out completely to be eligible for entry by Thursday, February 28, 2018.
  3. Quilt must be clean and of good quality. Incomplete, torn, or soiled quilts do not qualify for entry or display and will be rejected.
  4. The Quilt Acquisition Committee reserves the right to refuse the display of distasteful items.
  5. Quilts do not have to be appraised to be entered, a value limit of $300 will be placed on any un-appraised quilts. NOTE: As Eugenia A. Barnes points out in her article, “ Establishing Monetary Value for Your Quilts”, “…the value you decide to place on an item is not a guarantee of what might be compensated to you in the event of an insurance claim. The burden of proof as to the item(s) value is on the owner of the piece.”
  6. A copy of the appraisal must accompany quilts with an appraisal value of $300 or more. All appraisals will be kept confidential and destroyed at the end of the show.
  7. Labeling your Quilt is required.  If your quilt is being judged, please safety pin an opaque fabric or place blue painters tape over the label before dropping off quilt. Covering may be removed after judging.
  8. All quilts will be required to have a sleeve (sleeve may be temporarily basted on). Quilts 60” and smaller will need a minimum 2 inch sleeve. Quilts over 60” will need a minimum 4 inch sleeve. No exceptions. All quilts must be able to be hung.  Any quilt of 80” or lager must have a hanging sleeve attached to the top of the quilt. OR A 5 x 7 piece of white fabric with the word “TOP” sewn to the top center of the quilt. The lettering is to be 4 inches in height and in black lettering. No safety pins, straight pins, or tape is to be used in attaching the piece of fabric to the quilt. Any quilt submitted without the hanging sleeve or sign attached to the quilt at the time of drop off will be rejected.
  9. Multiple entries may be made by one person, however see category limits below. The electronic entry for is located at http://hannibalpiecemakers.com/. A photo of each quilt is required and must be uploaded when entering electronically. Paper entry forms are available upon request and may be copied for multiple entries.
  10. Judged entries can be submitted electronically but will not be entered into the judged category until payment is received. Entry fees for multiple judged quilts may be payable with 1 check.
  11. Judged entry fees refunds prior to the entry deadline are at he discretion of the Acquisition Committee. Entry Fees are non- refundable after March 1st.
  12. All Quilts are required to be checked in during drop-off times. Quilt will be examined prior to acceptance. Please plan accordingly. NO Exceptions
  13. No unaccompanied drop-off of quilts.
  14. Quilt pick-up for non-members will begin at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 7, 2018, NON-MEMEMBERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE BUILDING DURING TEARDOWN. No Exceptions. Quilt pick-up for HPQG members will begin after teardown is completed on Saturday, April 7, 2018.

Receipt is required for quilt pick-up.

CATEGORIES – Choose your category carefully. Limit of 2 quilts per person per category. Quilts will NOT be moved to the appropriate category. Entries may be any size but must be 3 layers – top, batting, & backing.

Viewer’s Choice 1st place ribbons will be awarded in each of the following categories (excluding workshops) unless otherwise noted:

  1. Best of Show…. What is the viewers favorite quilt overall.
  2. Bed quilts(greater than 60 x 60)
  3. Wall hanging (smaller than 60 x 60 and larger than 25 x 25)
  4. Miniatures – Entry may be maximum 96” perimeter or smaller (96” perimeter is 24 x 24)
  5. Art – Entry may be any size of your original design made with artistic intent that uses color, design, and construction techniques to create a work that expands beyond traditional quilts. An original work is composed firs-hand – a fresh design or style without copying the works of others.
  6. Juniors- Under 18 years old.
  7. Men’s quilts – Entry must be constructed by a male.

Judged Entries – Prize money will be awarded to the Best of Show. 1st place winners, and will be determined by number of entries.

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons will be awarded in each of the following categories unless otherwise noted:

  1. Judges Choice-Best of Show-Judges Choice-Best of Show ribbon only and prize money
  2. Bed Quilts- 1. Pieced – Entry must be more than 50% pieced.

                               2. Hand appliquéd . Entry must be more  than 50% hand appliquéd.

                         3. Machine appliquéd . Entry must be more than 50% machine appliquéd.

                         4. Hand quilted- Entry must be 100% hand quilted.

                         5. Machine Quilted – Entry must be 100% machine quilted.

  1. c. Wall hanging – 1. Pieced – Entry must be more than 50% pieced.
